The Engelberg-Titlis region has been an internationally renowned tourist destination for many years and generates a significant proportion of its annual turnover from foreign guests. As part of the TITLIS project, the Titlis Tower is currently being renovated and made accessible to guests. A modern mountain station will also be built over the next few years. Both sub-projects are being realized in collaboration with the renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron and will contribute to the region's appeal. Norbert Patt, CEO of Titlis Bergbahnen, is familiar with large-scale projects and emphasizes the importance of sustainability and flexibility. “The collaboration with the army, which began over three years ago, was very exciting and uncomplicated. We are equipped for a large event like this and have the necessary expertise,” explains Patt. Two people on the Titlis Bergbahnen side acted as project manager and interface and were able to coordinate quickly thanks to a well-connected partner network in the region.
With a strong logistical presence on site, soldiers ensure that the event runs smoothly. “The army brings a lot of manpower and womanpower, everything is excellently organized. Their core competencies in logistics and planning in particular come into their own here,” continues Patt.
The Military World Winter Games 2025 impressively demonstrated how a sustainable, efficient and internationally significant sporting event can be realized by using existing structures and expertise. Engelberg-Titlis underlined its position as a first-class winter sports destination - not only for tourism, but also for top-class sporting events.
